first_imgNewsChild killed in Limerick motorway accidentBy Staff Reporter – September 17, 2016 562 Limerick Ladies National Football League opener to be streamed live A THREE year old child has been killed in a road traffic accident on the M20 in Limerick this Saturday afternoon.The accident occurred on the southbound lane of the M20 near the Patrickswell exit around 5pm.The car, it is believed, overturned on the central median and collided with an oncoming car in the northbound lane. The crash trapped  the occupants inside the vehicles.Sign up for the weekly Limerick Post newsletter Sign Up It is understood that a three-year-old girl suffered extensive injuries and was removed from the car by firefighters from the Limerick City Fire and Rescue service before emergency paramedics treated her at the scene.The child was taken to University Hospital Limerick but was later pronounced dead.Another child in the car is understood to have suffered minor injuries and is in hospital.The driver suffered some injuries and was treated at the scene before being taken to UHL but their condition is unknown.The three occupants of the northbound car were treated for minor injuries but their conditions are said to be stable.Garda forensic collision experts are carrying out initial investigations.A number of road closures are in place.Witnesses to the crash are asked to contact Roxboro Road Garda Station on 061-214340 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
